BYAC Contractors

The managing director and driving force behind BYAC Contractors is Quinton Tucker who operates from the group’s headquarters in Midland, Western Australia.

The Indigenous owned and operated firm provides training, skills development and job placement in the mining and construction industries to Indigenous and non-Indigenous employees.

BYAC’s employees are motivated, trained,
reliable and job-ready

Operating since 1994, BYAC Contractors has provided job-ready employees to mining and construction companies including Anaconda Mining (later Minara Resources) and others, in positions ranging from tradespeople and plant operators to sentry guards and leading hands. See our Services information.

The BYAC Philosophy

A unique feature of BYAC’s training and placement service is its emphasis on supporting and mentoring its contract staff in a fully committed way. BYAC takes an holistic approach to working with Indigenous people to create greater opportunities for their involvement in the mining and related industries and a stronger Indigenous workforce for Western Australia.

BYAC’s successful employment model sees employees working in teams, with support, direction and assistance readily available.

Its induction and peer support processes have fostered the creation of a reliable and qualified workforce of Indigenous people which is enthusiastic, professional and job-ready for contract and permanent positions with mining companies.

Induction and Peer Support

Induction processes take new employees through all of the essential requirements of working on a mine site enabling them to be fully prepared for the requirements of the site, understand the FIFO schedules and pressures, and recognise the complete nature of the work and relationship requirements so they can meet the quality standards of employers.

Many of BYAC’s Indigenous workers report their work with BYAC to be the first time they have ever been employed in an environment where management is Indigenous and can provide them with such valuable peer support. Where available, BYAC also assists employees through the provision of affordable local accommodation.

In this supportive and professional environment BYAC employees develop their confidence, skills and work practices, paying dividends for both employees and employers and expanding the reputation, availability and capabilities of WA’s Indigenous workforce.

The BYAC Journey

BYAC has a commitment to developing the confidence and skills of Indigenous people. This is underpinned by a respect for the Indigenous culture and community life.

In addition to the work of BYAC Contracting, the Burrna Yurral Aboriginal Corporation operates in the Kurrawang Community outside of Kalgoorlie and also has an affilliation with the highly successful CAPS schools in Coolgardie and Esperance.
